ELP's recent cross-cultural professional development day with Mamanta, Tiwi Islands experts and ELP Alumni, provided a transformative, hands-on learning experience, striking a balance between fun and serious content. The day enriched the team's understanding of Tiwi culture, emphasising the importance of cultural diversity in professional development.

When communities have time, resources, and spaces to brainstorm ideas, creativity blossoms, and collaboration flourishes. That’s exactly what occurred at Impact North’s First Nations Women Social Enterprise Forum in Nhulunbuy and Yirrkala.

When communities have time, resources, and spaces to brainstorm ideas, creativity blossoms, and collaboration flourishes. That’s exactly what occurred at Impact North’s First Nations Women Social Enterprise Forum in Nhulunbuy and Yirrkala.

Business metrics are important, of course – they’re directly related to the KPIs that funding bodies are looking for – so they shouldn’t be ignored, but for ELP, they’re far from the most important factors they look at as they support the entrepreneurs in their programs.

Late in August, ELP held its annual Leadership Camp and Celebration event in Darwin’s Botanic Gardens. Current and upcoming participants in ELP’s Incubation Program, Mentorship Program, Alumni and Impact North members were invited to join, with the two-day event seeing 13 attendees and 8 businesses in attendance.

In late July, the ELP team flew over to Elcho Island to continue working with the women and sistagirls from the Galiwin’ku Women’s Space (GWS).  Led by Yolŋu women and supported by the broader community, GWS are the only space on Elcho Island dedicated to the support and empowerment of women.

Our Community Manager, Troy Garling, headed to Cairns and Yarrabah to see how Indigenous entrepreneurs are getting the support they need as they pursue business. More than just a business trip, his journey got very personal as he connected with his own history.

For Troy, the Tennant Creek Social Enterprise Showcase is a tangible example of how role models, in life as well as in business, can change the game for anyone, young or old. He’s now proud of the work he does, seeing it as showing his kids a better way.
